Working with Angels

Angels in the SkyRecently I went to the metaphysical and personal growth conference, I Can Do It!, sponsored by Hay House. I was particularly interested in listening to Doreen Virtue, one of the reigning experts on angels. She was a dynamic and interesting speaker. I very much liked her style of presenting and interacting with the audience. We all laughed when she said that in her house everyone said, “Virtue is a patience.” More importantly because of her connections to angels, the audience was able to connect easily to angels as well.

Although I communicate regularly with my guides, I’ve never been much of an angel person. After an amazing meditation once, when my higher self showed itself to me visually looking exactly like an angel, I often wondered if maybe angels were just ourselves, showing up when needed. Jean Houston tells a story of when she was deeply suffering as a teenager, and an angel showed up to tell her everything would turn out okay. Twenty years later she was deep in a meditation and suddenly found herself visiting herself as a teenager saying everything would turn out okay.

But Doreen Virtue has a different sense of angels. In her worldview, they are God’s right hands. According to her, they love to help us. Her simple approach is…ask them to help and they will.

A day later, I had an opportunity to ask for their help. The hotel my friend and I were staying in, seemed to be having plumbing problems. The day before the toilet had stopped up. We called housekeeping and they sent someone up with a plunger. The next day, my friend was deeply sleeping when the toilet stopped up again. I wasn’t sure what to do. If I called housekeeping, it would wake up my friend. I kept staring at the almost overflowing bowl, hoping it would slowly empty itself out. Not a drop of water left. A bit out of desperation (and ideas), I said, “Angels can you help?” One second later there was a huge “Whoosh!” and the toilet completely flushed. In fact, it felt like every pipe for a 2 mile radius was cleared out. I was impressed!

Later that day, I was catching my plane home. It was an hour late. Since I only had an hour layover in Denver, I started to fret a bit about making my next flight. As it was the last flight for the day to Bozeman, I knew if I missed it, it would mean spending a night in Denver. Once again, I sent up the request for angel help. I got on the plane and realized I was in the last row, next to the window. I groaned. It would take forever to get off the plane. I asked the flight attendant if she could help and she promised to ask everyone to stay in their seats while I (and everyone else with a short connection) got off. The two people to my left scoffed at the idea and said that no one ever respected the request.

Somewhere in the middle of the flight to Denver, the flight attendant came looking for me. That’s when I found out that the airplane that I was on, was the plane that was flying to Bozeman! All I had to do was exit the plane, stand in line and get back on! Score two for the angels!

Getting off and standing in line, however, was a bit more problematic then I realized. The flight was sold out. Four people had to volunteer to stay in Denver for the night. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any early flight to Bozeman the next day, so I couldn’t volunteer because of work commitments. Since only three people volunteered, someone was going to get bumped. I sent up another request for help. Once again the angels came through. I got the last seat on the flight.

A week later, I once again asked the angels for help. My son, who wears a very expensive hearing aid, lost it when he was shooting skeet. He told me right after I had just come home from a long, hot day of shopping in Bozeman. I was tired and seaty. All I wanted was to relax in a clawfoot tub. After telling him (rather sharply) to continue to look for it, I went off and called on the angels. I asked them for help in finding it. In my mind’s eye, it seemed like they handed it to me shortly after I sent up the request. Then I got the message that I needed to forgive my son. Mercury retrograde had been a tough month. His computer died, his cell phone was lost, and he went through 2 hearing aids (which all mysteriously quit working). Now, this third hearing aid was lost. I felt like I couldn’t take any more. Nevertheless the angels asked that I forgive him and so I did, knowing that whether the hearing aid was found or not, my son was more important than the “things” in his life.

About 30 minutes later, my son came home. I immediately told him I was sorry for being upset and that I forgave him for losing it. He looked at me strangely then held up the tiny mechanism. The hearing aid had been found (it was lost in a huge meadow)! Angels, you rock!

So my question to you is: do you work with angels? Have they helped you out lately? If so, share your angel stories with us in the comments.

  1. I’m a big fan both of Angels AND Guides, and talk to and receive assistance from both regularly.

I did get the impression from Doreen Virtue’s books that she doesn’t distinguish between the two – did she talk about the difference at all? It felt to me like, to her, all of our helping entities are “angels” which is strictly speaking not true … but it sure is a good way to get people talking to them, I guess. It’s funny how “angels” are far more acceptable than “Guides” in many circles. Occasionally I have clients who are far more comfortable believing in their angels than in their Guides.

    Hi Andrea,
Thanks for your thought provoking comment. Doreen didn’t talk about guides at all. I, too, feel a big difference between angels and guides. Perhaps I have shied away from angels because there is so much mass consciousness energy around them, it is hard to connect cleanly without all the overly sweet goop.

For me, I too have a sense that “guides” and “angels” are different. That Doreen Virtue presentation – that gia mentioned – was really cool. I love how simple she made it (1) everyone has a squad of angels, (2) they are always with you just waiting around for you to make a request, (3) no request is too big or small or frivilous, (4) any request made doesn’t take away from someone elses request!

So, having been reminded of the angel tool, I too have been using it with great success. I’ve seen instant, incredible results and sometimes no results, which a gather is also a result just not the way I was wanting or expecting.

Then I had a thought, if I make a request, but don’t see it answered as I’d hoped, and I assume the request is still in motion out there, maybe what I’ll get isn’t the specific, but rather the intention of the request. If my request is for someone to do something/follow up, maybe that doesn’t happen, but my intention of wanting to connect is still out there, so maybe it can/will come back to me in a different way at a more appropriate time.

Do you think that’s true or just some story I made up to make myself feel better about not getting what I asked for?

    :O)

This is from a good friend and fantastic energy healer/intuitive:

Since I’m no computer wizard, and didn’t see a place for comments, I’ll just reply to this email, and perhaps you can advise me!??!? I have been working daily with angels for probably close to 20 years. I’m so glad you were able to hear Doreen speak and feel that connection that she has. I was blessed to enroll in her first Angel Therapy Intensive 10 years ago which enhanced that connection greatly. I saw her at a conference in the Yucatan where she was the last speaker, and mentioned the Angel Therapy training. She said, “If you feel you need to be there, you need to be there.” Well of course I did, and the angels provided an unexpected bonus of a week’s salary from the alternative school I was teaching at, the exact amount of the week long intensive!!!The angels are so willing to help us, but we must only ask. You can begin with the mundane things: parking spaces, moving waiting lines, finding things…etc. they never fail to support and help us. I always ask assistance when working with a client, family member, friend or myself. They’re amazing healers, and love it when we just turn things over to them, they seem to work things out so much easier than we can. If you want some specific stories, I’d be glad to send some in the best format. I am also blessed to be finally attending the Advanced Angel Therapy Training with Doreen in November. Look forward to more angel miracles!

Lori, that’s an interesting question about what is happening when we perceive “nothing” happens. The specific example that you give about wanting someone to do something/follow up, is a red flag about spiritual free will and choice issues. The angels can’t make someone fall in love with us for example (as lovely as we are). So, if you get no response maybe you have to check the language of the response. (Just a theory…I’m no angel expert). I know when Diego lost the hearing aid, I didn’t request that the angels help him find it, I requested that the hearing aid be found. In psychic hindsight, I should have added “and that it be working.” Sigh.

    blessings,

LOL!!! But, sorry to hear of the ending of the amazing hearing aid story.

Great tip though on asking. Ahh yes, free will …

Flashback some 13 years ago … after returning from Nepal and saying out loud, “Buddha, how can I serve?” and ended up with three foster children.
