What I Did Last Summer
Besides hosting blog carnivals, I did manage to get a few posts written here. But most of my writing went into my Squidoo lenses. What is Squidoo, you might be asking? It is the brilliant brainchild of marketing guru, Seth Godin. Recognizing that many websites need someone to shine a light on them for the search engines to find them, Seth came up with the idea of creating one page websites, called lenses, that could do just that.
I started with the idea of creating a few lenses to bring this blog to new eyes…then I got totally addicted. It turns out making lenses is like a camp art project…fun and creatively easy. Squidoo, however, is also a community which has competitions for the best lens of the day, top 100 lenses (according to rank), and special designations for people who have created a lot of lenses. My inner competitor got addicted when one of my lenses made Lens Of The Day just 16 days after I created it. Since there’s over 500,000 lenses, LOTD is kind of a big deal. In Squidoo world anyway.
If a person creates 50 really great lenses, they can achieve Giant Squid status (which has some nice perks). The next deadline for accepting Giant Squids is the end of September. I set out an intention back in May to become a Giant Squid this September. Last night I decided that I wasn’t going to make it. I have 29 lenses made, so basically I’d have to make a lens every day, without fail, the rest of this month. There’s too many other projects I have going to drop them all and just concentrate on that. There’s always the next time…
This morning I woke up with a different frame of mind. I’ve decided to give it a great try, like Michael Phelps in that one race when he looked for sure like he was not going to win (how did he do that, by the way?) I’m inviting you all on the journey. My posts this month will be book reports of those lenses. Hopefully, you’ll be interested enough to check some of them out and maybe even start a few lenses yourself. Squidoo helped this blog achieve top ranking in search engines, very quickly. If you Google “energy healing, this blog comes up in the #1 spot. That is because of all the Squidoo lenses pointing back to this blog.
(Note: If you are getting this post via email, you may need to visit the blog to get the following links).
The first lens I made was Human Energy and What You Can Do With It. It’s about bringing awareness to people about their energetic self. I equate it to having hero superpowers and invite people to share what superpowers they would like to have…I get some surprising answers!
My top ranking lens has been Top 10 Tips For Increasing Your Intuition. We all love a top ten list.
I have a lens About Me, that may have way too much information for you about me, and a lens that takes you on a journey through my life according to the metaphysical books I was reading at different critical stages. I also share my life growing up on a guest ranch in Montana, under my alter identity known as Ramblin’ Rose.
Science of Energy Healing also has its own lens. If you want to experience all the of the great posts on this blog in a book format, this lens organizes the posts in a chapter by chapter form.
Perhaps the lens I had the most fun making is called Squidoo Therapy. It’s about how Squidoo can be a therapeutic tool for giving new form to creative endeavors that didn’t work out. I wrote it after resurrecting my out-of-print-book from the 90s on How To Buy Real Estate in Mexico and turned it into a Squidoo lens. By the way…the Mexican real estate lens is the lens that made Lens of The Day in just 16 days!
If you get inspired to visit any of these lenses, give them some lovin’ and stumble them, leave a comment, or rank them (the little stars at the top). You might also get inspired to start your own lens…just click on that button on any of these lenses and you’ll be off and lensing in no time. If you need any help or advice, drop me a line and I’ll shorten the learning curve the best I can.
Okay, I’m off to create another lens. I’ll let you know more about these lenses in the coming days. Will I make Giant Squid???
