The Five Biggest Mistakes People Make with Intention

Published by gia combs-ramirez at 10:46 am under Energy Science, Law of Attraction

In my healing sessions with others, I ask my client what his or her intention is for an area of their life. Because I read energy, I notice when their words don’t match their energetic stance. The Universe always reads the energetic stance, also known as the intention behind the intention. A classic example is someone who says “I’m fine!” but is throwing off anger with every physical movement. I’ve noticed five common mistakes that people make when stating an intention which makes them less effective in manifesting.

The first biggest mistake people make with intention is:

Don’t reinvent the wheel. The universe already has in place those forces that create and manifest. We do not have to do the creating.

In my post Ask gia, someone asked me how to manifest work, abundance and relationships. My answer was: we don’t. There are natural forces in the universe that create for us. How do they create? It’s a mystery that no one has really figured out yet. How do those forces know what to create? By our intentions, conscious or otherwise.

Ponder this for a second: How does an apple seed become an apple tree? I mean really think about that. That tiny, small, black piece of matter can turn into an entire tree! Isn’t that amazing? The seed doesn’t hold a tree inside of it that inflates when water hits it. It holds the intention, which in the case of an apple seed are the blueprints for a tree. Natural Universal Laws then act upon that intent to create the tree. (To have a direct experience of these forces that create, read this post on the Field of Intent which now has a podcast of the meditation.) Once you really get this point, life is much easier. You just have to get to clear intent about what you want and let the Universe do the rest. Getting to clear intent can be a full time job, however.

The second biggest mistake people make with intentions is to want validation from the universe that the intention will happen before they commit to it.

Don’t ask for a guarantee. It’s already built into the system. If you want it, you’ll get it.

Is there a catch? Yes, it’s in the phrase “if you want it.” Are you committed to your intention? If you aren’t, the Universe sure isn’t going to be either. You show your commitment to your intentions two ways:

  1. Internally, when you point your vehicle (body) toward the intention and never waver toward the destination no matter what comes up. A friend of mine calls it “becoming fierce in the heart.”
  2. Externally by taking an action that reflects your commitment. Simple example…you intend to lose weight, so you walk for 20 minutes every day. If you’re the apple seed, you fall to the earth so you have a medium to grow in.

A third mistake people make with intentions has to do with form versus essence:

Don’t get fixated on the form. The Universe will create a form that best reflects your intention in right timing to your soul’s purpose.

Some people teaching Law of Attraction might not agree with me on this one. They would perhaps tell you to picture every small detail of what you want. What I’ve observed is that people rarely know what they want or why they want it. They start out wanting a Lamborghini and when it’s manifested, they discover what they really wanted was to look good in front of their family because they had a self-worth issue. Fixating on the form will not heal the self-worth issue. When I want to get to clear intention, I start with the form of what I think I want, then ask myself the question: What is the quality of this form that I want? Most of the time it boils down to one of the eleven Universal Needs.

The fourth mistake that people make with intentions has to do with the psychic energy of the mind:

Don’t hold your intentions with your psychic energy. Release your intention so it can be acted on by the Universal forces that create and manifest.

When people hold their intention with their psychic energy, it’s because they want to will the intention into form. This goes back to mistake number one where the person doesn’t trust that the universe will actually manifest for them. The psychic energy of the mind locks onto the form to make it happen. Psychic energy can “will” things into form. I know some people who are good at this, but it takes tremendous amounts of energy AND it creates negative karma for the person because they are forcing something into place. Anything forced is in wrong timing. Law of Attraction proponents actually foster this mistake by instructing people to think of what they want every day, repeating it ad naseum.

Some people who are using this energetic stance of psychic control don’t have an issue about trusting a Universal Law for manifesting but about the timing of the manifesting. For those who are time sensitive, just add that component into your intention. Regardless of the reason, I find that the psychic energy attached to the intention constricts the creation energy channels, limiting the power of the Universe to manifest.

A final mistake people make with intentions has to do with receiving:

Don’t bother creating an intention, if you don’t receive it when it manifests. By practicing appreciation for all things big and small that even slightly resembles your intention, you create the right energetic stance for receiving.

We live in a society that fosters giving over receiving. You can’t truly have one without the other. For someone to be able to give, someone else has to receive. It’s the same with manifesting. Open and receive from the Universe, with a grateful heart.

Other resources for working with the Law of Attraction and Intentions:

It is possible to learn the right energetic stance to have when manifesting all on your own. However, the process can take a great deal of self-awareness and time. Crystalline Consciousness Technique is a protocol that very quickly and easily prepares the energetic stance of the body for manifesting.

Check out this post from the Energies of Creation about the four levels of intention.

And this earlier post on creating intentions from the heart.

And this one about retraining your mind to perceive what the Universe brings.

Finally, the movie In Pursuit of Happyness is a great example of a man with an intention (better his family’s life), staying committed to the intention during setbacks and hardship, and allowing the Universe to create the right form.

  1. Gia,
You explained the essential distinctions quite clearly. Interesting we both wrote about intentions this week without knowing the other was doing so!

  2. Gia,

You are an incredible writer! Talk about getting to the core of a concept… I’ve been studying and implementing law of attraction concepts in my life for several years now, and always avidly read information on the subject when I run across it. The part that moved me the most was in #2 when you said, “Internally, when you point your vehicle (body) toward the intention and never waver toward the destination no matter what comes up. A friend of mine calls it “becoming fierce in the heart.”

It’s the never wavering part that is really hard for us humans! Thank you for having this blog. I’ve bookmarked you and will definitely be coming back!

    Namaste, Tanja

The ideas you discuss are uplifting and empowering. You orient readers toward an innate process. Another way of viewing life is to believe mistakes do not exist. In this light, every choice is valuable experience that invites new levels of awareness and understanding.

    Dear Gia,
I’m very, very thankful I stumbled across your blog! Every day for the past two weeks before I go to bed, I read your posts. I think it’s amazing that you empower others to heal themselves, little by little. Everyday, I feel changes in myself. I’m looking forward to seeing more fruits of my most wholesome intentions, however they manifest themselves. Your words have helped me in so many ways. THANK YOU!!!!

    Hi Gia,
I would like to know if you do any private sessions or at least any public appearances? I am interested!

  7. giacr says:

Yep, I do private sessions as it says in the sidebar of my blog.

  8. Laurie says:

I love this (even though I should be working). Thanks. Joy is yours.
