The 6th Night of the Mayan Calendar
On November 8, we entered the 6th Night of the Mayan Calendar. It will end on November 2, 2010. It is the last night of the Mayan Calendar, which comes to an end in 2011 (or 2012 depending on who’s interpreting the Mayan Calendar).
So what are days and nights in the Mayan Calendar referring to? Why do they come to an end? And how does the current 6th night affect us?
In my radio shows of November 10 and 17 I look at some of these questions and then offer a healing meditation for activating the potential inherent during this time. Here are some of the highlights from those shows (and the links to the archive for those shows).
First a disclaimer…I’m not an expert on the Mayan Calendar. I have read some of Jose Arguelles’, and Barbara Handclow’s information, as well as Carl Johan Calleman. The latter believes the calendar, which actually measures time rhythms in several different patterns, ends in October of 2011. Some have said that the end of the calendar signifies the end of history.
Does that mean the end of us? In my intuitive journeys to better understand what we are going through, and what we are becoming, I believe that the end of history refers to the end of karma. Not that we won’t be experiencing karma, but it will be instant and not carried into other lifetimes. (For example, I cause harm to another. Instead of carrying that negative karma into another lifetime, I will immediately experience/atone for the harm).
Back to days and nights. One of the time rhythms of the Mayan Calendar is a rhythm of 13. This rhythm shows up many ways, including the 13 moons in a year, the 13 steps to creation, and the 13 days and nights in one week (the Bible talks about God making the world in a week which is essentially 7 days and 6 nights). Calleman relates the 13 days and nights to different states of consciousness as well. He has noticed that during a night, finances can suffer as well as other socioeconomic structures. He senses that all forms of dominance are coming to an end.
But for me to understand and connect with the 6th night I had to turn into my own experience. Darkness can be a frightening thing. Our eyes become desperate to see in darkness, if we feel afraid or feel unsafe. But if we feel safe, the velvety expanse of a dark night can be magical, mysterious and awe-inspiring such as watching the Northern Lights or the Milky Way.
During the night, our conscious mind takes a rest and subconscious forces come up. These forces are our greatest allies, our greatest fears, and our greatest enemies. Hence part of the opportunity during this next year is clearing out the illusionary fears and other blocks (enemies) that exist in our subconscious. Stepping into our greatest potential, our subconscious allies are there ready to help us.
Another concept of night is the one called the Dark Night of the Soul. This is a time when we feel cut off from our soul, the source of our daily infusion of spirit. Strangely experiencing a dark night of the soul, has been a sign of spiritual development. But for those who have experienced them, they are not something wanted or searched for. They are terrifying in the emptiness, hopelessness and despair. Perhaps one of the greatest realizations I had in the last radio show is that we will no longer be experiencing these as a way to grow spiritually….reason enough to celebrate.
Overall, this coming year offers opportunities to us particularly if we align to the energy and not resist it or fight it. In the healing meditations in these two shows, your energy is calibrated and aligned to the 6th night.
