Is It Pathology or Is It Spiritual Expansion?

The movie channel HBO has a new series called John From Cincinnati. John is a character who on the surface might seem mentally challenged or perhaps he’s from outer space. Since I missed the first 15 minutes of the pilot show, I’m not sure if the writers give us a context for John or not. Knowing HBO, my guess is probably not.

John hooks up with a family from southern California. There’s a grandpa who’s an excop, the 50 something son who was a famous surfer until he blew his knee out at some critical moment, the 30 something grandson who was a famous surfer until he became a drug addict and the great grandson who is about 13 and of course, is also a surfer and about to become famous unless something happens to him as well. For a female presence the show has Rebecca DeMornay playing Mitch’s wife, the 50 something surfer. Initially she seems harder than all of them, but the viewer sees a heart of love and anguish under the tough veneer.

The part where I came in was when Mitch, after hanging out with John (mentally challenged? ET?) for a while (who doesn’t really have conversation with people, he mostly repeats what they say in such a way that they think they are conversing with him) spontaneously starts levitating. Since you might have gotten lost in that sentence it was Mitch that was levitating.

Now in Mitch’s world, there is no explanation for this. If you were studying ancient religions you might know that there are spiritual powers called siddhi consciousness, when levitating and manifesting out of thin air is considered normal. They arise naturally with spiritual expansion. Or if you lived in my worldview of energy, it would seem normal, although not everyday normal.

But for Mitch, there is no context. He decides he must have a brain tumor and is dying. After several misadventures, Mitch finds himself with his estranged, drug addict son (called Butchie) and they are actually communicating with each other. (The healing power of death). Mitch tells his son he’s dying and has a brain tumor. Butchie asks if a doctor made the prognosis and Mitch explains the levitation phenomena. At that moment it actually starts to happen again. As Butchie watches in amazement as his dad rises in the air he exclaims, “If that is a tumor, sign me up!”

After laughing about 10 minutes, I realized that the story perfectly illustrates what I have tried to communicate to people. Spiritual expansion, aka spiritual growth, transformation, awakening, and enlightenment, creates increased energy moving through the body. Strange symptoms manifest where we have blocks and the energy can’t pass through. If our mind interprets these symptoms as being ill or as pathology, the body flips into an immune response, trying to fight off imaginary foes. A form of spiritual autoimmune disease, if you will.

Having the context that what you are going through is an energetic experience allows you to choose solutions that support balancing and stabilizing yourself during a spiritual expansion. Here are a few pointers to know about spiritual expansion:

  1. You don’t have to be “searching” for it to occur. It can happen spontaneously at any time. It has been happening more spontaneously during the Earth changes that we are currently experiencing.
  2. If you have strange symptoms that doctors can’t label, consider that it is a spiritual expansion.
  3. If you have sudden psychic abilities that you didn’t have before (or start levitating), consider that it is a spiritual expansion.
  4. Good tools for balancing and stabilizing are CranioSacral Therapy; Reiki healing sessions; Flower Essences; grounding and centering exercises such as yoga, Tai Chi and Chi Gung; breath work; drinking lots of water and immersing yourself in water (to draw off excess energy).

A great book that describes a sudden awakening is The Black Butterfly by Richard Moss, M.D.

Great article Gia – wasn’t sure where it was going at first, but loved the way you tied it all together.

I am so GLAD that I somehow KNEW my experience, which medical doctors explained as bipolar, was a spiritual expansion exactly as you describe. Armed with this knowledge, and a certain level of self-awareness, I was able to integrate my experience using the methods you describe.

It does seem to be happening to more and more people, and it’s great to see sites like yours offering down-to-earth real advice.

    Makes one feel quite normal!

So nice to know that you were still reading after my 10 day break. It was like getting back into exercise mode after a long break.
