Ask gia | Why do you need money?
Here is a comment from one of my blog readers:
I got a good feeling from you and reading your various pages here. I began with googling “manifesting healing energy” and followed links to here. Unfortunately, I will have to look elsewhere for my answers as I am unable (and not inclined) to satisfy your need for money. What a shame our society is so capitalistic to charge for this type of information. It makes me wonder if you have true knowledge and a calling from God if you feel you must sell it. Regardless, good luck in your journey through life.
living love,
Leon
Dear Leon,
Thank you for your honest comment. This attitude or belief system is a very prevalent one and from a strictly mundane level it makes no sense at all. Would I be a better healer if I made a living as a clerk at a grocery story? Would I be a better healer, if I lived under a bridge and waited for those who need healing to find me there?
As a metaphysicist I’m intrigued by the old belief system that having “God’s gifts and true knowledge”, i.e. healing abilities, should be something that is given away free. I have run into this assumption from others most of my life, although rarely consciously. It certainly didn’t come from the Bible (”and if ye are a healer, you must live on manna from heaven alone”).
Those of you who are innate healers, but not choosing to actively work as healers will find that this unconscious attitude is affecting you as well. If you haven’t worked through this facet of your healing abilities, you won’t get paid well for anything you choose to do. (I write more about that in Are You An Unconscious Healer?).
But I digress. Back to my question of where did this point of view originate from? For millenia, healers, ministers, prophets and shamans received either the currency of the day (chickens, pigs and goats), or were supported by a community that was receiving donations from others.
One of the richest institutions on the planet is the Catholic church. All of the clergy, bishops and pope are supposedly part of the church because of a calling from God, and as we all know, every religion claims to offer true knowledge. They have no problem accepting your donations in the form of money, property and other wordly goods. Although I doubt they are receiving chickens, anymore.
Perhaps this belief system arises from the notion that money is the root of all evil and a person with spiritual gifts such as healing must not be tainted by it. But money is an illusion. It is just something that we’ve all agreed we’ll use as an energy exchange mechanism. It used to be wampum or shells or gold. And of course, those chickens and goats. Now we’ve agreed to use what our governments create and call “money.” Truthfully we could use Monopoly money if we all agreed to place value on it. I explore more about these themes in The Metaphysics of Money.
But now I’m going to share with you a BIG SECRET. The truth is, Leon, healing is happening whenever you engage with my energy, including reading my posts here on the blog, my Squidoo lenses, my Facebook page, my Twitters or just calling me up to sell me the latest gadget via telemarketing. It’s not something I can turn off and on. It’s just on. I am an equal opportunity healer. Rich, poor, dumb, intelligent, white, black, Catholic, Buddhist, Republican, Democrat, murderer, saint, woman, man, dog, cat…they all benefit from the healing energy that moves through me.
So pay attention when you read my blog and see if you can feel the healing happening.
Now that I’ve given out my deepest secret, I’ll share my next deepest secret.
People heal more fully and on bigger levels when they pay for it or send me a donation (or send a donation to the Catholic Church, even!) When there is an energetic exchange of some sort, it triggers a bigger response to the healing. Not from my end but from yours. It is a spiritual law and I have observed this personally from many hours of healing consultations, both pro bono and paid.
After saying that, Leon, I’m now going to offer you some free healing information. Whatever you were searching for on my blog or on the internet, you already have within you. Everyone, not just a special few, has spiritual gifts and “true knowledge and a calling from God.” Open and receive yours. When you do, you’ll find that the Universe brings you abundance in many forms, including money.
Abundant blessings,
gia

Great post! People get so tangled up about spiritual gifts and payment. So although you have dedicated yourself to your own spiritual growth, worked at it, and learn more about it all the time, some think you should give the fruits of those efforts away for free.
Yet it is expected that doctors charge a lot for their healing services. You do not claim to be a doctor nor is your energy healing work the same work a doctor does, but why should one be paid and the other not???
As an artist, I find I am able to paint far more paintings if I sell them. If I did not sell them I would have to spend more time doing something else to pay my bills, which do not stop no matter what I am doing.
I don’t see that energy healing, creating art, inspired cooking, or any number of other avenues of service are any more or less spiritual than each other. All are as spiritual as the person doing them. Being spiritual does not stop the bills, and charging for valuable services that take acquired skill and concentrated time is just how we get along here.
And being paid makes it possible to offer more of those particularly inspired efforts than if they have to be sandwiched around making a living doing something less inspired and less useful.
It also insures the person receiving recognizes the work as something of genuine value. Free often equals throwaway. But if you have paid for something, you are going to make sure you get your value from it!
Fabulous! Thank you. I get in my own way about money and receiving payment for the gifts i have. They were gifts given to me and they are gifts that i have worked hard to “uncover.” Yes, i was born with them and yet, i had to create the opportunity to “see” them - this took time, effort, and money.
We all have gifts to share. My gift is to support others in healing themselves. It takes time, energy, presence and focus to do that. And i joyfully do so.
Each of us has a part in the creation of this universe. We give more value to certain jobs and less to others. Should a baseball player charge for “playing” ball - especially if s/he loves it? Should a veterinarian charge for their services?
Our society decides the value of a particular task by paying money for it. Maybe the plummeting financial markets are a way of forcing us to redefine what is really important and of value.
Thanks, gia, for inviting us into a really important discussion!
ROCKIN’ response. What great insight and information and reminder!!!!!!! I soooooo LOVE your clarity and am so greatfull that you share it so freely and communicate it so clearly!! So simple - makes so much sense. Great information for everyone, regardless of their path.

gia, wow, thanks for that blog. it certainly brings things into a much better light. hardest part of what i do has always be charging and how much to charge, i can safely say not any more.
Hello
I am a healer; I do not charge; I neither advertise nor market; I do wait for those who need me to find me…
However, I do have a day job…
regards
Anthony
